Education

Mr. Keiffer earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree with majors in Economics and Government from the University of Texas in 1978. Mr. Keiffer earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1981. Paul Keiffer joined the firm in 1987.

Court Admissions

Mr. Keiffer was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1981 and was admitted in the Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, the Northern district of Florida, 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court. He has also appeared Pro Hac Vice in many other bankruptcy courts.

Mr. Keiffer is a member of the American Bar Association, having served on the Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Law Section, specifically as Vice Chair from 2002 through 2006 and as Chair from 2007 through 2009, of the Small Business Bankruptcy Subcommittee. He is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, serving on the Bankruptcy Committee of the Business Law Section. He is a member and 1996 Bankruptcy Section Past President of the Dallas Bar Association. He is a member of the American Inns of Court and John C. Ford Inn, currently serving as President and formerly a Master and Counselor, Treasurer and Vice President/Programs. Additionally, Mr. Keiffer is a Certified Specialist in Business Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1992 and by the American Board of Certification (an adjunct of the American Bankruptcy Institute) since 1993. Mr. Keiffer was designated as a Texas Super Lawyer in Bankruptcy & Workouts for 2004 and 2006 through 2010 by Law & Politics and the publishers of Texas Monthly and is listed in Best Lawyers in America (2007 - 2009).  Mr. Keiffer was also made a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in 2008.

Experience

Mr. Keiffer practices primarily in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and is involved in bankruptcy litigation along with representation of individual and corporate entities in bankruptcy reorganization. He has over twenty years of experience in all phases of practice before the Bankruptcy Courts of the United States regarding matters involving business bankruptcies of individuals, corporations, partnerships and other entities, as well as appellate practice on such issues. He has represented debtors, committees, trustees and litigation defendants, in contexts such as avoidance actions and discharge related matters. His principal practice is the representation of small to medium business enterprises in restructuring and reorganizing those entities affairs. Mr. Keiffer's additional specialization is the Uniform Commercial Code, particularly its interrelationship with issues before the Bankruptcy Court. Additionally, Mr. Keiffer has litigated in both federal and state courts in Dallas, Texas, and has argued before both Texas appellate and U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Keiffer has been a member of one of the predecessor firms, Burke, Wright & Keiffer, P.C. since 1987 and became a shareholder in 1992. Prior to this association, Mr. Keiffer practiced bankruptcy and civil litigation in Dallas for over five years.
