Mr. Johnston received his Bachelors Degree in Accountancy from the University of Oklahoma in 1998. He earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2001 and his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 2002.
Mr. Johnston was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2002 and the Oklahoma Bar Association in 2001. He is also licensed to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Mr. Johnston is a member of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section, the American Bar Association Tax Section, and the Dallas Bar Association (Tax Section and Probate Trusts & Estates Section). He is also a member of the Dallas Estate Planning Council, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and the Texas Association of Young Lawyers.
Mr. Johnston was selected for inclusion in the 2009 Texas Super Lawyers-Rising Stars Edition by the publishers of Texas Monthly Magazine (limited to 2.5 percent of the attorneys in the state). He was also the recipient of the Robert Hickman Smellage, Sr. Graduate Tax Scholarship.
Mr. Johnston practices primarily in the areas of federal income tax planning, estate planning, and estate and trust administration. His practice involves the implementation of sophisticated estate planning techniques such as family limited partnerships, charitable trusts, private foundations, grantor retained annuity trusts and qualified personal residence trusts. His practice also involves counseling closely-held businesses on a variety of issues, including entity formation, tax planning, business succession planning and employee benefits.
