Education

Mr. Burke received his undergraduate and graduate education in San Antonio, graduating from St. Mary's University with degrees in both Business (B.B.A. - Economics) and Law (J.D.) in 1961.

Court Admissions

Mr. Burke was admitted to practice in the Texas Bar in 1961. He has also been admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court; Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, Tax Court, and District Courts of Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.

Professional Memberships / Affiliations

Mr. Burke is a member of the American Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association in the Corporate and Business Law Section, the Dallas Bar Association and a Life Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation. He has been Maintaining Member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, a Senior Life Fellow in the Dallas Bar Foundation, and a co-founder and past chair of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association. He also chaired the Speakers Bureau of the Dallas Bar Association. He has served on the Courthouse Liaison Committee & Speakers Committee and was President of the Hon. John C. Ford American Inn of Court. He is also a Life Member of Phi Delta Phi.

Honors

In 1961, Mr. Burke was selected as Member of the Year of Tarlton Inn of Phi Delta Phi. He was also selected as Honorary Sergeant of the Inn of Hon. John C. Ford American Inn of Court (2003).

Civic

Currently, Mr. Burke is an active member of the Dallas Safari Club, the Dallas Ecological Foundation (Board of Trustees), the Knights of Columbus (Council 799 3rd Degree), Fr. Abram J. Ryan 4th Degree, the Dar Al Ruse Caravan International Order of Alhambra and the Metropolitan Club of Dallas of Serra International. He is District Governor of the United States Council of Serra International Fraternity. He is also a member of Tau Delta Sigma. He has previously been involved with the Seroco Empire Toastmasters, the Greater Dallas Association of Knights of Columbus, and the Dallas County War on Poverty, serving on the Board of Directors. He has also been active with the Dallas County Small Business Development Center, the Dallas County Historical Survey Committee, and the Dallas Knights of Columbus Credit Union Board of Directors. Within the Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church of Dallas, he has been involved with the Men's Club (President), the Scout Troop 719 Troop Committee (Chair), the Finance Committee (Chair), the Building Committee (Vice-Chair), and the Board of Consultors (Chair). Additionally, Mr. Burke has been associated with the Downtown Dallas Optimist Club, the Military Government Association of Dallas (President), the Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House Board of Trustees and the Montserrat Foundation Board of Trustees.

Mr. Burke authored "Texas Exemptions": Update on Exemptions: Pension Plans, Insurance Benefits, on Capping and Doubling Up: for the Advanced Creditors Rights Course for the State Bar of Texas in March of 1992. Mr. Burke is a former Dean of the William J. Rochelle, Jr. Chapter 11 Practice Course of the Hon. John C. Ford American Inn of Court an annual course.

Experience

Mr. Burke practices mainly in the area of reorganizing financially troubled businesses and individuals, both through bankruptcy proceedings as well as informal work-outs. Since the beginning of his law practice in 1962, Mr. Burke has represented clients in the areas of hotel and motel organization and operations; oil and gas; raw cotton; real estate; family law; corporate; partnership and related entities; contractual agreements; finance; commercial litigation; labor-employee benefits; freight; e-commerce and probate. He has served as Receiver, Trustee, Examiner and Expert witness. He has represented local, regional, national and international clients as counsel, as well as in state and federal courts, both at the trial and appellate level. He has been involved in international business transactions and has represented foreign businesses in the United States, as well as in other parts of the world. During Mr. Burke's college and law school years, he served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army and six years in the U.S. Army Reserves, attaining the rank of Captain.
